Bioworm™ FAQs

Is Bioworm™ biodegradable?

Like all of our Siltworm™ products, the fill is 99%+ biodegradable material derived from recycled wood construction waste. The netting is a hybrid product that has been tested over multiple environments (wastewater, seawater, soil, landfill) per ASTM standards and respirometry testing disintegrates ensuring 92% of the microplastics do not enter the water column.

Does Bioworm™ contribute to microplastic pollution?

Bioworm netting is a geotextile that has been specially treated to combat microplastic pollution. Unlike traditional filter socks, BioWorm's™ netting is specifically designed to disintegrate.

What certifications does Bioworm™ carry?

The netting is OEKO-TEX ECO PASSPORT® certified, validating non-toxic, safe textile chemistry. The netting is also tested under ASTM D5988. The fill material carries regulatory approval for post-use land application as a biodegradable material.

How effective is Bioworm™ at retaining sediment?

Bioworm™ delivers up to a 95.7% filtering efficiency (ASTM D5141) and 91.9% soil retention effectiveness (ASTM D7351), as tested by Tri-Environmental.

What ASTM tests has Bioworm™ passed?

ASTM D5141 (flow rate and filtering efficiency) and ASTM D7351 (toe-of-slope sediment retention and seepage effectiveness).

How long does the netting last in the field?

Field conditions play a significant role in the time before degradation. Users can expect to see significant breakdown beginning in the 9 – 12 month range when exposed to direct sunlight and repeated rainfall.

What is Bioworm™ filled with?

99%+ recycled kiln-dried/low-moisture wood fiber making it weed, seed, disease, and bark-free, with a 90% 1.5–2-inch grind and 10% fine grind.

Is the fill material safe for the environment?

Yes. It is regulatory approved for land application and animal bedding as a biodegradable material.

What sizes does Bioworm™ come in?

8" x 12' (45 pieces/pallet, 540 linear feet) or 8" x 270' rolls (2 pieces/pallet, 540 linear feet).

How is Bioworm™ shipped?

Shrink-wrapped and palletized with caps, suitable for indoor or outdoor storage.
