Solar Farms

Community Scale Solar Farm – Approximately 3 MW

Market Sector: Alternative Energy / Solar Farm

Perimeter Control Installation for Sediment & Erosion Control

Erosion & Construction Services was engaged to perform the initial perimeter silt fence installation for a community-scale solar farm in Jackson County, Illinois. ECS installed perimeter sediment controls at the outset of the project to establish erosion and sediment control measures prior to active site development.

The scope was limited to initial perimeter installation in support of early construction activities and site compliance requirements.

Services Completed:

  • Perimeter & Sediment Control Installation
    • Silt fence

Why This Project Matters

Utility-scale solar projects require sustained erosion control and vegetation management well beyond initial construction. This project highlights ECS’s ability to support large, sensitive sites through ongoing SWPPP maintenance, adaptive erosion control, and vegetation management services that protect environmental resources while keeping renewable energy projects moving forward.

SWPPP Maintenance, Vegetation Establishment & Ongoing Site Management

Erosion & Construction Services provided long-term erosion and sediment control maintenance, vegetation establishment, and site management services for a large utility-scale solar facility located in Northern Indiana. The project encompasses approximately 80 MW of installed capacity and spans hundreds of acres, requiring ongoing compliance support and active site stewardship throughout construction and commissioning.

ECS was engaged after initial construction activities were underway to perform SWPPP maintenance and repair, address erosion issues as they developed, and manage vegetation establishment across the site. Work was performed repeatedly over an extended period to support regulatory compliance, protect downstream resources, and maintain site accessibility as construction progressed.

Services Completed:

  • SWPPP Maintenance & Repair
    • Ongoing repair and reinforcement of silt fence and perimeter controls
    • Installation and replacement of sediment control measures where failures occurred
    • Ditch and drainage maintenance to address erosion and sediment accumulation
  • Erosion & Sediment Control Adjustments
    • Supplemental installation of erosion control materials in high-impact areas
    • Machine work to stabilize eroded sections and protect drainage features
  • Vegetation Establishment
    • Seeding performed in coordination with specialty partners to establish permanent vegetation
    • Support for phased stabilization as construction areas were released
  • Vegetation Management
    • Repeated mowing across large areas of the site to maintain vegetation height and accessibility
    • Ongoing vegetation control to support inspections and long-term site performance
