This is a Warning

By Joe Moore

Tehran is on the verge of running out of water

Reservoirs are drying up. Groundwater is depleted. And the reality is setting in: a city of over 13 million people could soon face a total water shutdown. It is alarming, but it is also a powerful reminder of what good policy and planning can prevent.

Here in the United States, we have not always gotten it right. But the Clean Water Act and decades of investment in stormwater and watershed management have helped protect us from the kind of collapse Tehran is facing now.

We built systems that treat, manage, and monitor water not just for today but for future generations, and it matters.

This is not just about Tehran. It is a warning. Clean, reliable water is not guaranteed anywhere.

We need to keep investing in smart policy, infrastructure, and environmental stewardship before we reach crisis levels of our own. Moving backwards to eliminate existing policy is a very dangerous game, and could have long-term effects that are devastating.
